Ombre manicure, Hombre, Ole Caliente!

Inspired by ombre nails done like here, I wanted to try myself!

I used Lumene base&top coat polish as the base, Lumene's Groove (just basic orange) as the base color and Essie Ole Caliente (neonish dark pink) on the tip.

The ombre style is quite easy to make with basic makeup sponge and couple of nail polishes, q-tips and nailpolish remover.

Step 1

Apply base coat that helps the nail polish stay longer and protects the nail from discoloration etc.

Step 2

Apply 1 layer of base color of your choice. My opinion is that a lighter color looks better on the root of nail and a darker color better on the tip half of the nail. So apply the color you want to be closer to the root of the nail first. I have this cute little orange matte nail polish from Lumene's Natural Code line.

Step 3

Apply your base color and the tip color on a sponge as two lines that can overlap a little bit but be careful not to get the other color to the other's bottle :) I also tried to mix the colors a little with a toothpick but I would as well skip that and just go ahead pressing the nails with the sponge.

Step 4

Press the sponge on the nail so that the line between the colors is about in the middle. Go through all the nails once and let dry. I found out that after some pressings the sponge would start getting bad and small parts of the sponge would stick to the fresh nail polish. So it's good to change the part of sponge every once in a while and apply the colors again always to a fresh place on the sponge. One sponge was totally enough for me for the whole manicure. You can cut off used parts to make it easier to find new clean flat surface.

Step 5

Let them dry. And let them dry well! :D

Step 6

Go through the nails again with the same technique, this time concentrating on getting the line between the colors into a little bit different part so the line becomes blurry. I carefully dabbed the same nail a couple of times to get it blurry enough. Just make sure you don't mess up the lower layers now!

Step 7

Remove the mess from around your nails with q-tips and nailpolish remover. I use Mavala nailpolish remover, which is actually not the best... I prefer a Finnish brand Mirame when it comes to nail polish removers, but I decided to try a new one. FAIL.

Step 8

Apply a top coat to get them nails smoothed and shiny! I use the Mavala Top Coat Fixator for this, which is a pretty good choice.

Step 9

Clean up...

And RELAX, it's Friday night!

At least nails ready to party :)

Happytarism Overload - Nature's Treats

This week has been a very very happy week for the nutritionist-happytarist-me :)

Well, actually it started last week when we picked up pears from almost our backyard. These small yummy yummy pears are super tasty juicy and totally free! Today I found some perfect ones again. The trees are on my way to work so it's easy to  just pick them when you go by. Today I might have looked like a maniac because I ended up shaking one of the trees to get the last couple of pears that weren't yet on the ground :D

"Hi, neighbours! I just really really gotta get these fruits! Otherwise I'll starve because all my money goes to cosmetics...!"

After going crazy with the pear trees, I realized after a long time that outdoor air is the best blush there can ever be! The healthy redness from the crisp autumn weather compliments any face if you ask me :) Plus I realized that my hat and my earphones are the same color by accident :)

The happiness continued on tuesday when my colleague brought be a huge bag full of mushrooms that her friend had picked last weekend! So earlier this week I made a pie and today I made pasta sauce from them <3

In the picture below I'm going through the mushrooms so that no extra pine needles, spiders or other forest creatures will end up in my food :D

AND today my other colleague brought me apple jam made from his apples and cooked by his wife! I can only love love love autumn and the harvesting season. The food is organic and more ecological than any other food, because it's from own backyards and close forests. Even though I live in a city with mostly buildings next to buildings and concrete, it's lovely to be treated by the nature and most of all my friends like this.

MAC Made My Makeup

Yestrday, for the first time in my life, I went to a makeup, just sitting there and having the nicest woman doing my makeup for me. It was just a normal monday evening otherwise, but this made it unique for me. My mom is a cosmetologist and a professional makeup artist but she has never done makeup for me, just dabbed a little Joe Blasco on my red face after a facial. So I was very to try this the first time! I was sure I'd learn a lot new and I did. She asked me what I want and I told her to choose everything herself, but make it more evening look than daytime look.

Here's all the stuff she used. First she started with removing my makeup and moisturizing my face, which was interesting because honestly I had no idea that MAC also has skin care items like moisturizers. Then she primed my face with 'Face protect' primer (with SPF 50!) and applied some tinted moisturizer in color medium. Into the moisturizer she mixed Lustre drops to make the skin more glowy and a tiny bit "metallical", because this makeup was a night-life inspired look.

As eyeshadow primer she used Paintpot (don't remember the name, but it's the most natural matte one). The eyeshadows she used:

- All That Glitters
- Satin Taupe
- Black Tide.

The eye shadow part was especially interesting because she taught me how to create the openness and depth to the eyes in a way I didn't know about.First of all: I always had the wrong kind of brush for the darker colors. Second: I had always put the darker colors too low. I didn't think they'd actually go as up as she put them and that was both literally and figuratively speaking an eye opening event for me :)

The secong most interesting thing was the lip makeup. I normally wear none or just a liiittle litlle bit of lipstick but now I wanted to try something new and wild! So we went for a bright peach color Vegas Volt (which doesn't look as wild in the picture as live):

Another thing I wanted to learn more about was contouring my face. I think I never really got the idea of it because I always had the feeling I was doing it wrong how many tutorials I ever watched! And I was right I was wrong :) First of all my brush used to be too big, I couldn't really control the areas I tried to work with it. Second: I really loved to see where the MAC's makeup artist would place which product: where's the jaw line for bronzer, where the high point for highlighter and where the perfect spot for blush.

The bronzer was perfect shade for my light skin:

And then Springsheen blush was a great match for the peachy lipstick:

This is what the result looks like :) I tried to take a photo in my friend's bathroom right afterwards:

And here with eyes closed and the lipstich already faded after having tea and eating 10 cookies at Kirsi's place :)

Aaand with a smile :D

Then I realized that the Lustre Drops combined with Soft and Gentle highlighter became very visible only after taking a picture of my head with flash. Look at that shimmer and glow! Perfect for party posing :D

The price for the makeup session was 3 products I had to buy. The decision was easy. I got a smaller face brush 188 and a fluffy eyeshadow brush 217 plus a concealer for my undereye area and occasional blemishes and somethings.

Overall I really really loved the well spent hour at MAC and will definitely do this again when I want to splurge on MAC products :) Next time I want to learn to make a better dramatic smokey eye with natural lips and cheecks.

10 Happiness Points, most of them to the awesome woman who di this to me (and I hate myself for not remembering her name) :)

Lush Makeup - Color Paradise

Today after having brunch with my friends (who we are going to celebrate Christmas and New Years in Bali and Singapore with me and Tommi and some other friends <3!!!:))  I thought I'd go looking for shoes, but instead went to Lush to try out their new makeup line.

The idea is to spin the round carousel of colors and then choose random three colors that match your mood or just look nice. Mine were Bubbly, Internally Motivated and Sophisticated. I guess they matched my mood in some way :) I am a bubbly person, at least sometimes! And I am motivated, both at work and at free time, I never need to ask someone to think of something to do for me, because I constantly have a to do list in my head :)

Sophisticated may suit me better than for example Extreme, but that's that about my sophistication... I'd rather call me unsophisticated at least when comes to stuff I blurp out from my mouth or how worn out clothes and shoes I normally wear :) No, you will not see a luxury brand handbag in my collection anytime soon! :D

Sophisticated or not, I still bought the eye shadow. I had actually swatched it before and thought about buying it even before I got the thorough introduction to the new makeup line. I also swatched some other shades too, some colorful eye liners, for example that blue one you can see on my hand. Seems to be pretty waterproof, but that's all I'll say aboyt the liners this time.

The liquid eye shadow seems like it's very high quality, it's pigmented and doesn't feel like anything on the skin. No stickiness or heaviness whatsoever. I normally never have any problems with creasing anyways, because I have dry lids and I use primer, but let's see if this is going to crease :) I've heard liquid shadows tend to do that, but I haven't had any liquid eye shadows in a couple of years, so I can't really remember.

The very nice and friendly woman who I was talking with, also gave me a small eyeliner brush for the shadow so I could also try it as an eye liner. I have a feeling it would look great on the lower lash line.

The other thing I got is this translucent face powder. It's a little pink, but it's promised to look like no color at all when it's applied on the skin as a setting powder. Let's see how this works. First thought is that it looks like I'm gonna make a mess with this because the jar is quite tiny and powder brushes normally quite big... But I'll see. Can't be that hard!

Next I'll try to find reviews of the Lush mascara and then maybe try it myself too!

Have you tried the Lush makeups? What do you think of them?

My happiness rating of the Lush makeups: 9 ½. (Would be 10 if the packaging were more practical for the powder)

Top 1 autumn scarf :)

I have only one top 1 autumn scarf, wchich is a little sad, but all my other scarfs I would preferrably categorize into spring, summer or winter scarfs. But this is definitely an autumn scarf :) The color is straight from a fallen maple leaf <3 I usually wear just black and this scarf makes me look more fun and alive and less like someone going to a funeral :)

Soon this scarf will become too cold to wear (because Finland is a freaking cold place) so then I'll make a TOP X -list of my winter scarfs and different ways to wear them.

Happiness ratings:

Autumn: 6 (it's not summer anymore...)

Autumn colors: 10+ :)

September Beauty Favourites

My make up favourite:

MAC Tendertone Hush Hush is the most amazing lip balm/lipgloss I've ever ever tried. The scent makes me go 'Mmmmmmmmmmm' every time and it's glossy and cozy and also feels hydrating enough for my lips that are not very demanding normally.

This is what it looks like on the lips:

essien mint candy apple kynsilakka
(Nail polish: Essie Mint Candy Apple)

My favourite hair wellness product:

KMS california Colorvitality Shine and Shield

This stuff makes styling so much easier. I don't really know how effective it is as a heat protector, but I do know that it defrizzes and adds shine to my hair. It also makes the hair dry faster while blowdrying. Love it. I would and will repurchase soon, because I'm almost running out, this was just a sample size I randomly bought last summer :)

My favourite hair styling product:

Ive already blogged about this here, but I have to do it again: It's the Percy & Reed Texturizing spray.

This stuff adds so much oomph to the hair that I can't believe my eyes :) Like nothing else. I recommend to anyone. I have naturally thick hair but I can imagine this does wonders to thin hair!

Percy & Reedin tuuheuttava spray on aivan mahtavaa, lisää ihan mielettömän paljon volyymia ja tekee kampauksen tekemisestä todella helppoa. Omat hiukset on melko paksut joten voin kuvitella miten ihana yllätys tämä spray olisi jollekin ohuthiuksiselle.

My favourite skin care product:

I've been on the brink of desperation with finding an eye make up remover that would take off my Dior waterproof mascara. But I finally found it, it's the Inglot eye makeup remover <3

This is a total repurchase, most propably over and over again. This is only the sample size again, because I had already lost money on makeup removers that didn't do the job so I wanted to play it safe this time and got the mini size. Next month I'll travel to Poland to meet up with my Erasmus friends and I hope Inglot will be much cheaper in it's home country :)

My favourite scent:

I bought this perfume a long time ago but I started really using it last month. Last summer was more about sweet scents like the Escada Taj Sunset, but when the weather turned to crispier mornings, I started using this clean fresh scent Warm Cotton. That's quite surprising because normally in the autumn I go for the spicier and warmer scents.

My favourite nail polish:

This I've also mentioned already in another post, but I can't help myself, I just totally fell in love with it. I've been wearing other reds too, but this beats them all. It's the Inglot 924.

My favourite accessory:

My PEACE earrings :D The color is gold. Some random old guy complimented them in Habitare, the biggest interior design fair in Finland :D

Nämä kullan väriset rauhanmerkkikorvikset taisi löytyä kesällä Glitteristä ja nyt olen käyttänyt niitä todella monesti kun oon käynyt jossain, jopa Habitaressa joku random äijä tuli kehumaan näitä :)

My Non-Beauty favourite:

I've been drinking camomille and other herbal teas almost every night. Before I found these Twinings Infusions teas I didn't do it that much ofter because I don't like the taste of pure camomille tea. But this selection has two different camomille teas with a twist like spearrmint or honey & vanilla. That small thing makes a big difference in my life. The tea makes it easier to relax before sleeping and the camomille helps me fall aslpeep. Looooooving it. But next time I want to find a selection with just camomille stuff, I actually kind of dislike the Linden tea.. So 1/5 is waste from the box. Otherwise great :)

Mitvit.

What I'm most happy about the September favourites is that all of the brands are cruelty free and can be found on PETA list of companies that don't test on animals (except Percy & Reed but I'm sure it can be found on the soon)! I can't wait until all of my makeup and cosmetics storage consists only of cruelty free products. Until then, I continue being happy with what I have!

Today I wanna match with my shirt

This morning was one of those shove-your-hand-into-the-wardrobe-and-wear-whatever-you-end-up-grabbing-first. So I ended up with a purple/burgundy/lilac loose shirt I found from 2nd hand market last month. It's a color I'd normally never buy, but somehow I kind of like it. While putting some makeup on, I realized that one of my MAC lipsticks is a total match for the color:

Tänään aamulla käteen tarttu aiemmin kirppikseltä ostamani viinipunainen/violetti (mikälie) paita ja meikatessani hoksasin, että yks minun MAC huulipunista on lähes aivan samanvärinen. Varmaan sen huulipunan takia alitajuisesti ostin ton paidan ja aattelin että niistä tulee hyvä pari :D

The color is called Plumful, it's from the Lustre line.

Sävyn nimi on Plumful, eli vähän niinkö Luumullinen :) Se löytyy Lustre-linjasta.

This is my all time favourite MAC lipstick. Maybe that's the reason I ended up buying a shirt with the same color. Somehow in the back of my mind I knew I could match it with the lipstick.. Or not :)

Then I started thinking if I could find matching eye shadows too, so I ended up using my Stila Living In Laguna palette, which I've neglected too much. I really like this palette, but haven't earlier even realized before how nice it actually is and how flattering the colors are for my mixcoloured eyes.

Huulipunan hoksattuani ajattelin sitten, että silmienkin pitää matchata, joten rupesin etsiskelemään violetteja värejä ja tarpeeksi lähelle sijoittui tämä STilan living the life in laguna -luomiväripaletti. En ollutkaan tätä kauheasti käyttänyt, mutta siihen tulee ehdottomasti muutos koska nämä sävyt näyttää todella hyvältä :)

The quality of the eye shadows is superb and it's really amazing how this palette can be so cheap! It was under 15 € if I remember correctly and for that you get 4 top quality shadows, a blush and a bronzer for your cheeks. A good deal. AND Stila is a totally cruelty free company and can be found from the PETA list of companies that don't test on animals.

Laatu on todella hyvää, luomivärit todella pigmenttisiä ja hyviä koostumukseltaankin. Ja hinta oli muistaakseni alle 15 €! Kaiken lisäksi Stila ei testaa eläimillä <3

First I primed my eyes with Urban Decay Primer Potion, then added 'bare' from Stila's In The Light palette to the whole lid, then sand dollar to all over moving lid, sunset to the top middle point of lid, bonfire to the outer corner and then went round the upper and lower lash lines with cove. The eyeliner I used is liquid liner from Inglot (highly recommend) and mascara is YSL Faux Cils.

Ensin pohjustin silmät Urban Decayn Primer Potionilla, sitten levitin Stilan In The Light -paletista barea  koko luomelle, sand dollaria liikkuvalle luomelle, sunsetia ihan luomen korkeimpaan keskiosaan, bonfirea ulkonurkkiin ja covella vedin kaikki ripsirajat. Eyelinerina käytin Inglotin nestemäistä lineria ja ripsarina YSL:n Faux Cils. Alla olevan kuvan värit on ihan vääriä, älä katso niitä vaan ylempää kuvaa missä ne näkyy oikein :)

The drawings of the color in the back of the palette couldn't be more wrong, don't look at them :) They just show which color is called what.

Overall I had a nice morning, which is really really rare, because I'm not a morning person at all! But maybe I should start paying more attention to playing with colors and matching them in the morning. Clearly that made me happier than my normal morning routine with a basic brownish neutral eye makeup and no lipstick at all.

The happiness rating: 8 (a morning with the alarm clock can never be above 9 :D )
